Terms of Use

Effective 27 July 2026

These terms cover your use of playsomerset.com, operated by MediaSavior. By using the site you agree to them. They are short because the site is simple: it is a free card game that runs in your browser, with no account and nothing to buy.

Using the site

You may play the game and read the pages here as much as you like, for personal, non-commercial use, at no charge. No account is required and none is offered.

Please do not:

The game, and who owns what

Somerset was invented by Arthur J. Hodges (1870 to 1946) of Carroll, Iowa. Single Somerset appeared in 1903 and Double Somerset in 1913. Hodges published it himself, sold the rights to Parker Brothers around 1934, and it was printed until about 1960.

This site is an unofficial fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Parker Brothers, Hasbro, or any current or former rights holder. The names Somerset and Some’R’Set are used only to identify the game the site implements.

The rules of a card game are a method of play, and the specific rules implemented here are taken from published rulebooks and from somersetgame.com, maintained by the Childs and Wiersma families, whose work made this possible. Provenance for every rule is set out on the About page. If you hold rights in this game and believe something here should change, please get in touch and it will be dealt with promptly.

The software, page designs, written explanations and card artwork on this site were created by MediaSavior and remain its property. You may link to any page freely.

No warranty, and the limits of liability

The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Considerable care has gone into implementing the rules faithfully and every published example is covered by an automated test, but no guarantee is made that the site is free of errors or will always be available.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MediaSavior is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Your game in progress is stored only in your own browser. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or switching device will lose it, and it cannot be recovered.

Privacy

The site collects nothing about you: no accounts, no analytics, no cookies, no tracking. The Privacy Policy sets out the detail.

Availability

The site is offered free of charge and may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice. No commitment is made to keep it running, although the whole point of it is that the game stays playable.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated, and the effective date at the top will change when they are. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nebraska, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and the courts of Nebraska have jurisdiction over any dispute. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force.

The site is operated by MediaSavior. Questions, corrections and rights enquiries can be sent through the contact form.
